Meta’s Sheryl Sandberg exits board after 12 years

Meta’s former Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg will be stepping down from her position on the tech giant’s board of directors once her term ends in May this year.

In a Facebook post, Sandberg wrote: “With a heart filled with gratitude and a mind filled with memories, I let the Meta board know that I will not stand for re-election this May.

“After I left my role as COO, I remained on the board to help ensure a successful transition.”

She added: “The Meta business is strong and well positioned for the future, so this feels like the right time to step away.”

Sandberg joined the tech giant in March 2008 and held the position of COO until September 2022.

Prior to Met, she held the position of Vice President of Global Online Sales & Operations at Google, a position she held for over six years.

Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, also took to Facebook to showcase his gratitude for Sandberg’s service and commitment towards the company. He added that he looks forward to this next chapter together with Sandberg.

The news comes as Meta announced plans to scale back on its global office footprint by shutting the doors to its London West End headquarters.

The decision to close the space, located on Rathbone Square, follows the technology giant paying £149 million to break a long-term lease on another office
